Job Description

Western Forest Products is hiring a Tax Manager. This new position offers an exciting and challenging tax career opportunity in the context of a successful, dynamic and evolving public company. You will not be isolated within the tax department as you will help to support the business, and be a valued member of a larger finance team. To help ensure your professional success, you will be mentored and supported by an experienced tax professional and participate in development opportunities.

You will manage all aspects of tax for our group of companies including tax provision preparation, compliance, audit support and cross border transactions and reporting. You will work directly with our in-house financial reporting team, operations and external service providers. You will also be involved in supporting transactions, business changes and special projects.


  • Perform corporate compliance activities - Canadian and US tax filings;
  • Prepare quarterly tax provision working papers and supporting analysis;
  • Work with external auditors to coordinate delivery and review of tax provisions and compliance;
  • Oversee transfer pricing, maintain documentation and advise on issues and status;
  • Develop and maintain compliance timeline;
  • Oversee commodity tax compliance;
  • Review Company practices and policies, work with Manager, Internal Controls to develop, improve and implement policies;
  • Stays abreast of changes in regulations to ensure timely compliance; and
  • Support transactions, business changes, and participate in special projects as required.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • C.P.A. designation
  • Completion of In-Depth Tax Course
  • Comprehensive Canadian Corporate Tax Experience
  • Familiarity with U.S. Tax Compliance
  • Experience with cross-border tax compliance, including transfer pricing and foreign affiliate rules.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team, and influence without authority.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a discreet and professional matter.
  • High level of integrity and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Experience in ERP implementation would be considered an asset
