Job Description

Western Forest Products is looking for a Sales Representative to join our Corporate Office located in Vancouver B.C.


The Sales Representative is responsible for executing WFP’s annual sales plan, selling targeted lumber products to select customers across North America.



  • Sell WFP lumber product line to selected customers of scale.
  • Primary focus of account/program management of existing customer base
  • Create and add value to our sales returns by developing deeper market penetration.
  • Manage the needs of existing and developing customers.
  • Provide a complete end-to-end service solution to our customers.
  • Coordinate and communicate frequently with all of the sawmills on product development and forecasted production / allocations.
  • Work in conjunction with other Sales Representatives to create mill production runs that maximize the overall return to the company.

Market Representation & Customer Service

  • Follow-up on customer inquiries as needed
  • Manage customer needs in a proactive and efficient manner.
  • Communicate and meet with WFP customers
  • Provide grade commentary and feedback on Canadian and US lumber and logs.
  • Work closely with Logistics and Documentation groups in order to ensure we meet commitment for on time, and on spec delivery of products.

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide market and development information including pricing trends Advise the Export group of ongoing development and changes to government policies that will impact and lumber consumption.
  • Monitor and report on inventory levels and general activity of logs and lumber.
  • Provide monthly management reports on the lumber and log market.
  • Present monthly sales and marketing reports to the General Manager, Sales and Marketing.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to pursue initiatives that support sales growth 

Marketing Activities

  • Generate, develop, and close on customer leads and opportunities in the target segments.
  • Identify lumber and finished product supply opportunities to sell into other global markets.
  • Continue to develop, promote, and market Western’s diverse product mix
  • Attend trade shows and industry events and effectively represent the Western brand, provide follow up actions and reporting
  • Attend and coordinate market trips from Western Senior Management and Executive.

Job Requirements


Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in business, forestry, wood products processing, interior design/architecture or related field
  • 3+ years sales experience in the wood products industry is a huge asset.
  • An understanding of lumber shipping and container loadings.
  • A strong understanding of international trade & economics.
  • Knowledge of all of the applications and grade requirements for lumber.
  • Proven track record of delivering against stretch sales goals.
  • Extensive knowledge of Western Red Cedar, Whitewood and Yellow Cedar market segments, sales channels and customers, or hardwoods/composites.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Innovative, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Professional sales training would be a strong advantage.
  • Proven track record of achieving targets and driving sales growth in a business.
  • Sound financial, technical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent internal and external relationship building skills, strong negotiation skills and the proven ability to build mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Superior presentation and report writing skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build consensus
