Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Health and Safety, the Advisor, Health & Safety is responsible for coaching, mentoring and guiding the Corporate Health and Safety Risk Management Program to all employees, contractors, customers, and visitors to Western Forest Products operating locations with the overarching objective of Defining a Higher Standard in Safety.

This position has general accountability for providing day to day health and safety support through coaching, mentoring and guidance to Operations Managers, Supervisors and Employees.   The Advisor, Health and Safety will work closely with the Operations’ to ensure that the company’s Health and Safety program is successfully delivered and implemented in all field operations.

This is a one year contract position located in Arlington, WA. Candidates must have eligibility to work in the US.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Ensures the Corporate Corporate Health and Safety Risk Management Program is fully implemented, maximized and continuously improved within area operations.
  • Completes compliance monitoring and verification activity within the operating area to ensure consistency with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Aids in the development and delivery of health and safety initiatives and measures the effectiveness of health and safety initiatives that influence performance and meet corporate expectations.
  • Supports Operation Managers, Supervisors and employees through coaching, mentoring and guidance of all aspects of the corporate health and safety risk management program.
  • Participates in the identification of health and safety performance targets and objectives at an operational area level.
  • Completes various health and safety inspections and audit programs.

 

Health and Safety Operations

  • Provides coaching, mentoring and guidance to Operation Managers, Supervisors and employees as it pertains to health and safety.
  • Provides clear and actionable direction and communication to the Operation Managers, Supervisors and employees as it pertains to health and safety.
  • Participates in the development, standardization and implementation of corporate health and safety training programs.
  • Ensures that corporate health and safety training program targets are met within the operating locations.
  • Reports on the health and safety performance and compliance of the operating areas and responds to performance issues.
  • Lead/Mentor accident and incident investigations with Operations Managers and Supervisors including root cause analysis to establish what is required to eliminate any possible reoccurrence in the future and monitor closure of corrective actions from incident investigations and audits;
  • Conduct H&S inspections and audits of worksites;
  • Assess safety performance and safety management systems of contractors;
  • Assisting operations with:
  1. The identification, development, and implementation/delivery of policies, procedures, plans, programs, and communication materials that promote and provide a healthy and safe work environment as well as ensuring that all are in keeping with regulatory requirements;
  2. Health and Safety inspections, orientations, safety audits and safety meetings as required;
  3. Hazard identification, communication and control measures

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Five years of progressive experience in the field of Health and Safety.
  • Previous experience in a health and safety role within manufacturing or industrial setting an asset.
  • Certificate or Degree in OHS or equivalent
  • ASP Designation
