Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Controller, and working closely with the Vice-President Timberlands, the Group Controller, Coast Timberlands is a key senior level financial resource.  The Group Controller will partner with operations management to identify opportunities to grow margin, improve business processes, and provide financial leadership while building financial capacity within the Timberlands' organization.  Further, the position is accountable to ensure financial reporting is prepared accurately on a timely basis, to oversee internal and external audits, and to prepare financial models for existing and new business initiatives within Timberlands.


  • To ensure business requirements and corporate fiduciary responsibilities are met for Western,
  • Key financial support person to the VP Timberlands and Senior Timberlands team in meeting financial and business reporting and analysis requirements,
  • Important role in systems implementation and maintenance, support and enhancements of the systems,
  • Finance lead in the development of strategic business plans of Timberlands and Fibre Supply,
  • Provides analytical reviews of financial information, inventory and fibre supply programs,
  • Provides the required information and support to meet the needs of external and internal audits, , various federal, provincial and global regulatory requirements,
  • Works with the Manufacturing and Sales Controllers, and Corporate Finance to ensure the required information and analysis are provided to support overall corporate decision making,
  • Works with the Corporate Finance team to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and are operating effectively in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures,
  • Works with the Director of Reporting to meet the month end reporting and quarter end reporting requirements on a timely, accurate and consistent basis; and ensure that International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are met,
  • Key member of the Senior Director, Corporate Controller's team to ensure current and future Corporate and Business requirements and initiatives are met,
  • Provides supervision and support to Timberlands Assistant Controller, Fibre Supply Accounting Manager and the accounting staff for each group, including, hiring, performance management, feedback and career development of the team,
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Education and Professional Designation/Certification:

  • University degree
  • Accounting designation 


  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressively senior experience in industry accounting and/or public company financial reporting; experience in the forest products industry is a positive candidate attribute.
