Western Forest Products is looking for a Compensation & Benefits Analyst to join our team. This position is located at our
Corporate Office in Vancouver, B.C.


The Compensation & Benefits Analyst is responsible for the implementation, delivery and administration of all Total Rewards programs and associated policies. Western’s Total Rewards programs include compensation design, job evaluation and classification, pension and benefits with the overall objective for Western to be an Employer of Choice and promote the ongoing attraction, recruitment and retention of a talented workforce.


  • Provide senior level expertise and leadership to complex projects / programs, developing recommendations and implementing solutions in the area of Compensation & Benefits.
  • Lead, and participate in the development, research, analysis, costing, implementation of compensation programs, policies, job design and wage/salary administration and policies.
  • Provide senior-level compensation expertise, including interpretation, guidance and coaching for all aspects of compensation, including policies interpretation and application.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations on compensation trends and issues.
  • Prepares salary surveys, ad hoc compensation surveys and compilation of survey Market data for salaried positions. Make recommendations for range increases and positioning as a result of market analysis findings.
  • Performs financial modelling and cost analysis.
  • Lead the annual bonus and merit process from process initiation to completion, including data validation, calculation and communication.
  • Conduct job analysis and job evaluations, liaising with Managers to review outcomes. Maintains database of job descriptions, job classifications and job evaluation results.
  • Participates in developing and streamlining policy and procedures
  • Keeps apprised of industry trends and legislations as it relates to pension and benefits.
  • Will be responsible to assist with department projects, and management of a variety of programs as necessary to support the compensation, HRIS and benefits functions for the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested

Job Requirements


Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Finance or a related field
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation achieved or in progress preferred
  • Extensive experience in the human resources field with a specialization in compensation and benefits, including experience working with job evaluation

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Deep understanding of best practices in compensation and benefits, with proven success in developing reward strategies that attract and retain top talent;
  • Exceptional analytical and numeracy skills; ability to consolidate information from various sources;
  • Knowledge and experience with benchmarking and market pricing jobs, including the completion of salary surveys.
  • Tact, diplomacy and discretion in handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Exceptional customer service focus with results focused attitude.
  • Self-directed, result oriented nature with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment, adopt new ideas and drive change.
  • Travel will be required at approximately 20-30%.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or the resources industry is preferred.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
